When the world didn’t end last weekend I spent my week watching some of the best world ending movies of all time.  This genre has always been backwards in my opinion. The worst movies in this category seem to be the best. Here are ten of my all time favorites and I have no shame in my game.

10) The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
A great look at what we would do if the end of the world ever happened.

9) 28 Days Later (2002)
Almost too good to be on this list but I needed to draw some credibility from somewhere.

8. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
Military madness at it’s best.

7) The Matrix (1999)
When this movie came out it was waaay under radar and it such a damn good movie. If you think it shouldn’t be in this category you should go jump in river and think again.

6) Spies Like Us (1985)
“Doctor, Doctor”

5) The Man Who Saw Tomorrow (1981)
Nostramus documentary is really eerie around 3am.

4) Independence Day (1996)
I love that we managed to dig up one guy that’s smarter and one pilot that’s craftier to pull off the defeat against the Aliens and of course they’re American. The only thing missing in this movie is a song from Toby Keith. God Bless the USA. And Pullman’s battle speech rules!

3) Red Dawn (1984)
Some may debate Red Dawn being in this genre but in the 80’s the Russian threat and World War 3 was the first step to the end of it all.  The stars aligned on this movie.

2) The Terminator (1984)
It’s really tough to beat vintage Arnold and Cameron. You just can’t.

1) Armageddon
Every ingredient needed for when the word is coming to an end is in Armageddon. It’s perfect.
