It’s Superstar Medley Week and we open with the seven remaining groups singing a medley of Halloween songs, notably Werewolves of London, This is Halloween and the Ghostbusters Theme Song.

As Nick Lachey sends us to the first commercial break, he announces that, “The Sing-off sings on.”  What does that even mean?

We kick off competition tonight with promises that at some point, Committed (last year’s winners) will show up to sing a song.

Urban Method  (aka “The Rappers”)

  • Medley:  Rihanna
  • My Thoughts:  I don’t like Rihanna.
  • Judges’ Thoughts:  All three judges loved the fact that they put the girl up front even though the girls’ performance last week was criticized.

Vocal point (aka “The Mormons”)

  • Medley:  Elvis
  • My Thoughts:  Elvis was really the perfect choice for these guys.  They did a great job of paying tribute to Elvis without trying to be Elvis.
  • Judges’ Thoughts:  They had nothing but positive things to say, especially about the transitions.  Then Sara took the time to point out one of the group member’s wives.

Afro Blue  (aka “The Black Group With One White Girl That No One Talks About”)

  • Medley:  Janet Jackson
  • My Thoughts:  The lead singer totally had a great Janet thing going.
  • Judges’ Thoughts:  Sara felt like she got lost in the middle even though the personality of the group really showed through.

Darmouth Aires  (aka “Those Preppy College Guys That Don’t Wear Yellow”)

  • Medley:  Queen
  • My Thoughts:  Why didn’t they do “Fat Bottom Girls” or “We are the Champions”?  I felt like this performance was kind of cheating since BoRap is pretty much an accappella song already.
  • Judges’ Thoughts:  Sara thought it was the best performance so far in the entire competition.  Shows how much she knows.

Pentatonix  (aka “The Kids Who Sing At Starbucks”)

  • Medley:  Britney Spears
  • My Thoughts:  I was really worried that they were ruining “Toxic,” but then the black guy saved it.  I hate the girl in this group.  I just don’t like her face.
  • Judges’ Thoughts:  Shawn asked one of the singers if he had an “on and off switch on your throat.”  That’s what he said.  Ben announced that he liked it when they said, “Pentatonix.”

Delilah  (aka “The Girl Group”)

  • Medley:  Alicia Keyes
  • My Thoughts:  I didn’t know there were enough Alicia Keyes songs to necessitate a medley.
  • Judges’ Thoughts:  Shawn said, “It was sassy, humble, sexy, strong, and engaging”

Yellow Jackets  (aka “The College Guys Who Went to Africa That One Time”)

  • Medley:  Billy Joel
  • My Thoughts:  I don’t know a lot of things but I know they were sharp and the transitions were awkward.
  • Judges’ Thoughts:  The judges’ were weirdly positive tonight and really didn’t say anything that negative to anyone.

Committed finally came out and did a Chris Brown Medley.  They are amazing.  Even up against all these groups, I still think they’d win again.

At elimination, The Yellow Jackets get sent home and exit to “Tubthumping” by Chubawamba.  Sara was wrong.  This is the best thing that this competition has seen so far.  Bring them back!  Let the boys sing!  They even managed to plug NBC.
