Everyone’s talking about The Master, and with good reason; it’s quickly becoming one of the most anticipated films of the year (it’s not about Scientology, but it totally is, donchaknow?), and now it’s released another bizarre trailer brazenly showing off its 70mm delights. What a tease.

The trailer below is a specialized collection of clips intended to advertise the special screening of the film that will be held in Chicago tonight. Check it out. It’s… well… it’s something you really need to watch for yourself:

Well, what do you reckon?

In a slightly unusual but very cool way, Paul Thomas Anderson is screening The Master in various cities before its official September release, and tonight, he’ll be screening the film at The Music Box in Chicago in full 70 mm.

The plot of the film focuses on a charismatic writer, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, who launches a religious organization in the aftermath of World War II.  Joaquin Phoenix plays a drifter who becomes Hoffman’s Number Two, but after a while begins to develop doubts about his new-found mentor and belief system. Now we’re really curious about what was in that letter…

The Master is due to be released in theaters on September 14th. Will you be watching?
