It’s Country Week on Dancing With the Stars and that means hideous costumes and terrible covers of country songs so let’s get to it!

Gilles & Peta: Nothing says country like a mesh top and patent leather pants! NOT.  Gilles and Peta had little time to prepare for their Shania Twain Cha Cha to “Man I feel Like a Woman” which is a song I’m totally okay with never hearing again.  The dance is okay despite Gilles awkward solo.  Len says, “A little bit loose in the legs tonight, but well done.”  Bruno says, “You sold it” and Carrie Ann says, “I thought it was so creative and sexy.”  Judges’ Scores: 27.5.

Sabrina & Louis:  For Sabrina’s country Rumba, she channels painful memories of a past relationship.  The dance is beautiful with only a few missteps, however the only thing “country” about it is Louis’ plaid shirt.  Bruno calls it “a sumptuous sequence of intriguing shapes.”  Carrie Ann says, “This is the true beauty of dance.  You were dancing from your heart.”  Len says, “It has lovely balance to it.” Judges’ Scores: 30.

Kelly & Val:  After struggling with her Samba last week Kelly and Val add some hours to their rehearsal time this week.  The result is a bizarre Tango to a Carrie Underwood song.  It looks like Val is dragging Kelly across the floor and her footing is off for the majority of the routine. Oh and her costume is hideous.  Carrie Ann calls it “a great comeback” and Len says, “It was a little bit hectic, but you kept it under control.”  Judges’ Scores: 27.

Melissa & Tony: Even though Melissa got clearance to dance her neck is still hurting, but luckily they have the Viennese Waltz where she’ll be in hold for most of the dance.  Despite a weird campfire and some trees, the dance is great and even gets a standing ovation from Len who says, “You got the how and you got the wow.”  Bruno says, “Beautiful, weightless, fluid.”  Carrie Ann says, “You have the most beautiful lines, but you’re still dancing in.”  Way to party poop Carrie Ann. Judges’ Scores: 29.5.

Shawn & Derek: Despite a knee injury Shawn and Derek dance a spunky Cha Cha to the annoying song “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” Bruno says, “Forget about the Tractor, you’re the sexy one.”  Carrie Ann says, “I think what is so great, the way you fused the two styles together” and Len says, “I thought the choreography was fantastic and I thought the movement was brilliant.” Judges’ Scores: 28.

Kirstie & Maks:  Kirstie attempts to do a country Rumba but she’s struggling this week and needs some “mini breaks,” which Maks doesn’t approve of.  The actual dance ends up being one of Kirstie’s best (despite the fog overload).  Carrie Ann says, “You are the queen of sexy.” Len “wants a little more hip action” and Bruno says, “I think that was really the expression of the gorgeousness of a woman.” Judges’ Scores:    27.5.

Apolo & Karina: Karina wants Apolo to show “open up” for his Viennese Waltz.  Apolo tries his best to “show emotions never shown before.”  The dance is beautiful and Len says, “It was two people in perfect harmony with each other and the music.”  Bruno says, “No questions you are a leading man.”  Carrie Ann calls it “poetry in motion.” Judges’ Scores: 30.

Emmitt & Cheryl: Emmitt struggles with his solo in rehearsal, but as he learned in football “if you can’t play with pain, you can’t play the game.”  Their Foxtrot is fun, airy and light and the solo is only mildly embarrassing.  Bruno says, “Your attitude is just brilliant.” Carrie Ann says, “You redeemed yourself on the solo” and Len says, “It was such entertainment and great to watch.” Judges’ Scores: 26.5.

Country Group Dance Side-by-Side Freestyle:  The judges awarded two extra points to the couple they think is the most entertaining, which somehow according to them is Kirstie and Maks.  However overall the dance was frantic and filled with an excessive amount of hip thrusting.

Kelly and Val are sitting at the bottom of the leader board, which means they could very well be heading home tomorrow.
