Happy Endings: Season 3 Premiere

It’s been all too long since these six crazies were in my television. But they’re back in full swing with a solid season three premiere.
So Penny gave base-jumping a try, but in classic Penny fashion, ended up falling down a flight of stairs instead. This results in an upper body cast and awesome cell phone grabber device. Max man-nurses for her, until all the “cut the crusts off my sandwich” demands get to be too much. Enter the handsome physical therapist, Kent. Max intercepts a call from doctor, assuring him that Penny and the body cast are in Bolivia, while telling Kent that the Doc says he has to stop by a lot more. He “Miserys” her. But it wouldn’t be Penny and Max if they didn’t love each other in the end. Penny also briefly reveals that her feelings for Dave are now just “if Alex were dead and Dave proposed she’d consider it.” Casey Wilson has some fantastic moments of physical humor in the upper body cast.
Dave meanwhile, is seeing Alex, but their “keeping it cas’.” Same goes for Dave’s new haircut (which looks the same but maybe a tiny bit messier). To prove how cool she is with this casual relationship, Alex sets Dave up with the cute “bartendress” but then gets cold feet (in a slightly different way than in the pilot) and finds herself a giant to make Dave jealous with. A giant who has graced the pages of Playgirl, no less. Finally they realize they really just want each other again and end the episode by announcing they’ll be moving in together. It should be interesting to see how this actually plays out, as my instincts tell me I prefer these two separately.
Brad and Jane remain their lovebird selves, despite Brad lying that he hasn’t been working, when really he got himself a new job. When an elaborate bathtub lie goes wrong, Brad admits that he needs some time off and quits his new job. This frees up plenty of time for him to master his ventriloquist skills with “Sinbrad,” the second best puppet to be on television this millennium (Gob Bluth’s Franklin CAN NEVER BE TOPPED). I saw Sinbrad in the promos and was a bit worried, but he’s kind of fantastic. I hope he shows up frequently this season. Sidenote: Jane remains the best dressed, best styled character on all of television. Every dream outfit I’ve ever had, she was wearing in this episode. And those sunglasses. I can’t handle it.
