Previously, on The Vampire Diaries: Stefan tried to teach Elena how to feed on animal blood (over human blood), but her doppelganger self wasn’t having it, and she ended up drinking from Damon and then drinking from Matt. A vampire hunter hell bent on killing some vampires showed up in town and shot Tyler – twice. April Young, the late Pastor Young’s daughter, also showed up in town and was almost killed by the vampire hunter and then almost killed by Elena. While the others mourned the loved ones they had lost in a Japanese lantern ceremony, Damon went to Alaric’s grave – and Alaric showed up! (in ghost form).

The episode opens with Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) in a hospital room being guarded. The guard hears a ruckus and goes to investigate; he’s promptly attacked by Connor the vampire hunter (no relation to Buffy). Tyler hears the ruckus and is ready to pounce when Connor (Todd Williams) comes into his room, however Connor hits him with a paralytic and then sticks a syringe into Tyler’s tooth. Okay, not only does that seem extremely painful, it’s just awkward too. Connor goes back to his RV and has something bubbling in a vial while he looks at two file folders with Elena and Jeremy’s names on them.

Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) opens the door over at the Salvatore mansion and he sees Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) fixing up a motorcycle. Stefan says he wants to cheer up Elena and help her have some fun, and Damon says “those who can’t do, teach,” lawl. Apparently the vampire hunter jacked Tyler of his werewolf venom, so Damon says he’s going to go find the vampire hunter and eat him. Stefan says that he’ll help him, but Damon says he just wants to take care of Connor and then leave town. The deal was that whoever Elena didn’t choose would leave town, but that was before she turned into a vampire.

Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) are meeting up at their old makeout spot so that she can drink from him – Matt blood is the only thing she can keep down. He says it’s the least he can do since she saved his life. She drinks from him and then bandages him up right before the bell rings for school to start. Matt asks if it’s safe for her to be at school and Elena says it’s her senior year and she’s made it this long, she’s not going to bail before she graduates. They see a flier on a car mandating a town-wide curfew since Tyler was shot in front of half the town.

Carol Lockwood brings Tyler home from the hospital and they’re greeted by two of Klaus’ hybrids. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) says since he can’t make anymore hybrids he’s dedicated to protecting the ones he has left, and to consider the two hybrids Tyler’s bodyguards.

Stefan is in class with Elena when Rebekah (Claire Holt) comes in advertising her “anti-curfew party” at her new house. Elena asks if Klaus finally kicked her out, and Rebekah says he didn’t kick her out, she left. Elena asks why she would leave the only person that loves her, and Rebekah says “your boyfriend loved me once…actually more than once.” Oooooh snap. Stefan asks why she’s there and she’s history is her favorite subject because of Mr. Saltzman, but oh, right, she killed Mr. Saltzman. Elena has had enough and she tries to stab Rebekah with a pencil. Rebekah catches the pencil and instead stabs Elena. Somehow nobody notices that Elena is bleeding profusely. Elena leaves the classroom with Stefan following, and they see the vampire hunter in the hallways.

Stefan goes after the hunter while Elena goes to the washroom to clean up. All of a sudden, “Heather” walks in and says Rebekah has sent her to make sure Elena is okay. She’s dripping blood from her neck, and then Rebekah comes in and asks if Elena is getting hungry. Elena tells Rebekah that this is her school and Rebekah needs to get out. But then Rebekah says it’s her school now, and how inconvenient that there’s a vampire hunter roaming around, and then she smears Heather’s blood all over Elena’s face. Whattabitch!

Connor the vampire hunter (still no relation to Buffy) is interviewing Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) about his and Elena’s past. Jeremy asks why he wants to know, and Conner says it’s because Jeremy saw his “hunter’s mark” which Jeremy mistook for a tattoo. The mark is invisible to everyone except other hunters or potential hunters, so Connor tells Jeremy to show up at his RV with a vampire and he’ll teach Jeremy how to be a vampire hunter.

Elena is talking to Stefan and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) about how much she hates Rebekah. Stefan says they should just take the rest of the day off and have some fun. Elena agrees and then says that they’re going to go to Rebekah’s anti-curfew party and show her that she doesn’t bother Elena; she just has to go home and change first.

Tyler is hanging out at his house, and “Haley” comes in. I’ve seen every episode of this show and have never seen her before, so I’m thinking they’re just doing a horrible job of introducing her as a new character. Apparently she hung out in the Appalachians with Tyler and helped him break his sire bond, she then found out from one of Klaus’ hybrids that he was guarding someone named Tyler, and she thought “what were the chances?” She has weird teeth and something is up with her speech pattern. I don’t like where this is going, whatsoever.

Damon is at Connor’s RV snooping around when he gets shot with two arrows from a booby trap. He can’t pull out the arrows however, because they’re attached to what looks like a bomb. So he calls another random girl who I’ve never seen before. Oh, it’s Dr. Meredith Fell (Torrey DeVitto). I didn’t recognize her without her scrubs on. While she tries to cut him out, he finds the letter from Pastor Young to April. Meredith tells him he’s a good brother for being on vampire duty while Stefan goes off and plays with the girl that broke Damon’s heart. She finally cuts him out and Damon is able to take the arrow out.

Rebekah approaches Matt while he’s at his locker and tells him about the party she’s having. He completely ignores her. She’s like, yeah so you’re probably mad at me for trying to kill you, but really I never meant to hurt you. Um yeah, Rebekah. That’s like making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then eating it and then telling it you never meant to eat it. I know that’s like the worst metaphor ever, but doesn’t a PB&J sandwich sound delicious right now?

Connor is still at the school. Really? They have a town-wide curfew yet they let random adults just roam around the local high school. Come on Mystic Falls, let’s take things up a notch. He asks Matt who he’s been letting feed on him, and Matt says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Connor threatens him with a knife, once again really inappropriate for an adult to be doing at the local high school. So Matt tells him Rebekah is the one he’s been letting feed on him. Yeah, Matt. You go, girl!

Elena is snooping through Damon’s closet looking for bourbon to get through Rebekah’s party. But Damon sees right through her ruse and tells her there’s no way he would just leave the last remaining white oak stake out where anybody could take it. Elena changes the subject and asks how he got his arrow wounds. Damon says it was a hunter mishap, and Elena says he was at her school. Damon says he knows because he was talking to Jeremy, and Elena tells him to leave Jeremy out of it.

Speaking of Jeremy, he shows up at Connor’s RV and tells him he knows where he can find a vampire. Jeremy tells Connor that Dr. Meredith has a deal with a vampire to trade her blood for his so she can treat vampires with it. Connor says there’s also an infestation of vampires at the high school and that one of them is even having a party. Jeremy asks if they’re going to the party, and Connor says he’s got the party covered and that they’re going to the hospital instead.

Stefan and Elena show up at Rebekah’s party and Elena is wearing a white sweater. A white sweater for God’s sake! Why on earth would you wear white if you were a vampire. That’s like me wearing a white sweater and eating a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich! Either way, there’s going to be a mess! Elena sees Rebekah and starts getting mad so Stefan hands her a beer. Before she can drink it however, she sees April Young (Grace Phipps) and goes to talk to her while Stefan finds something stronger than beer to drink.

Caroline shows up at Tyler’s house and finds out about the hybrids. She tries to get him to sneak out but he says he’s under house arrest from Klaus. Klaus sees Haley and says that Tyler has never mentioned her. Tyler tells Caroline that she should go to the party, and Klaus overhears. He says he has a sneaky feeling he knows why Tyler has never mentioned Haley before now.

Elena finds April in the kitchen of the party and gives April her beer. Elena asks how April is coping with her father’s death, and April says she’s doubting the story that her father didn’t notice a gas leak in the house. She doesn’t think it was an accident. Rebekah comes in and April leaves. Elena accuses Rebekah of blowing up the house with the council in it, but Rebekah denies it. She takes away Elena’s beer and in the process takes away her “walk in the daytime” ring. Elena hides in the corner and Rebekah throws her ring down the garbage disposal. Seriously, whattabitch!!

Somehow Elena manages to get her ring out, and she goes and gets the white oak stake out of her bag. Stefan walks in and sees the stake. He tells her it will feel good to kill her at first, but then thousands of vampires around the world will die, and the guilt will kill her. He says they should just get on the back of his motorcycle and get the hell out of there. Rebekah asks if they’re leaving so soon, and Elena says not yet, and does a keg stand. Yeah, I know they had to find some way to have Elena drink the beer that Connor must have poisoned, but a keg stand…come on.

Tyler asks Klaus where Haley is and Klaus says she had to run but he had her take the back door so Caroline wouldn’t see. Klaus accuses Tyler of cheating on Caroline with Haley, but Damon interrupts by calling. Damon asks if Tyler would like to go vampire hunter hunting, and Klaus says Tyler can’t but that he wants to go.

Elena and Stefan go motorcycle riding, and Elena decides she’s going to stand up on the back of the motorcycle while they’re driving. They get back to the Salvatore mansion and start having hot vampire sexy sex. But in the middle of it Elena starts to see Damon instead of Stefan. Elena notices her skin starting to do weird things and Stefan says that the vampire hunter had werewolf venom. Rebekah starts to feel woozy, looks in a mirror, and sees her face start cracking up. Matt shows up and tells Rebekah that the reason she hasn’t found love is because she doesn’t deserve it. And she tears his heart out. Yeah, but not really…she’s just delusional.

Connor and Jeremy show up at the hospital and they see Dr. Meredith. Connor follows Meredith into some kind of supply room but Damon is in there instead. Connor gets stuck in his own booby trap with the arrows and the bomb. Klaus is there too. Damon mentions Connor’s “disappearing tattoo” and Klaus starts to get curious. He looks at the writing one of Connor’s stakes and says, “You’re one of the five.” Just then, Connor pulls the arrow out of the booby trap and the room explodes.

Stefan calls Klaus and asks him to heal Elena – he’s the only one that can heal her of the werewolf venom. Klaus says as it turns out, Elena may still be of use to him after all, so he heals her. April is cleaning up Rebekah’s party and Rebekah says she can help her look into the fire at her father’s farmhouse. Apparently Rebekah is feeling better…maybe because she’s an Original, or maybe because she didn’t do a freakin’ keg stand like a 12 year old.

Carol Lockwood shows up at the hospital and Damon tells her the vampire hunter is dead. She says she’ll cancel the curfew and call off the extra patrols. As Damon’s leaving, Jeremy says, “See, I told you I can be a bad ass,” and Damon shushes him and says, “Shhhh…bad asses don’t say that.” Haha. Damon tries to go get a “farewell drink” with Dr. Meredith, but she tells him instead of leaving he needs to fix things with Elena.

Caroline shows up at the Salvatore mansion – summoned by Stefan. Stefan asks if Caroline remembers what she was like before she was a vampire. He wants Elena to come into herself and enjoy becoming a vampire, but whenever he’s with her he’s scared that he’ll indulge and become “the ripper” again. He feels like he’s holding Elena back and asks Caroline if she can help him “keep his edge.”

Matt shows up at Elena’s house and offers her his blood. She says she’s not herself lately, and that she feels this incredible rage all driven by her blood thirst. She starts drinking way too much from Matt until Damon rushes in and stops her. Damon compels Matt to forget what just happened and go home, he then tells Elena he’s going to teach her the right way to be a vampire.

Connor wakes up inside his RV and Klaus is watching him. Klaus tells him he just became worth more to him alive than dead. Connor asks what Klaus meant about being one of “the five” and Klaus says, “Let’s just say it’s made you the most well-protected vampire hunter in town.”

Next time, on The Vampire Diaries: Damon takes Elena to a frat party to feed on drunk college kids.
