Ben Affleck‘s Iran hostage drama Argo was again victorious with its second significant award in just two days; ‘Best Cast Ensemble’ (the top prize) at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards – a promising sign for the film’s chances of winning a ‘Best Picture’ Oscar next month.

Although it’s a race that has so far been considered wide open, it’s hard to ignore Argo‘s success and has certainly boosted speculation that it’s onto a winning streak. Especially after also coming away with the Producers Guild Award on Saturday, coming out on top of the other Academy Award best picture contenders Lincoln, Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbrook. Exciting stuff.

The film, a true story of the rescue of US diplomats stranded in Tehran following the 1978 Islamic revolution, features a cast of Alan Arkin, Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Denham, Clea DuVall, John Goodman, Kerry Bishe, Rory Cochrane, Scoot McNairy, Tate Donovan, and Victor Garber.

Meanwhile, lead actor honours went to Daniel-Day Lewis for his role as Lincoln, and Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbrook.

Here’s what Ben Affleck told reporters backstage after winning the award:

“There was absolutely no way I thought we would win this award. I don’t know what’s going to happen, nothing may happen, but it’s a wonderful opportunity to be on the ride.

The Screen Actors Guild ceremony is one of the most popular to watch amongst Hollywood’s various awards ceremonies, according the The Guardian, mainly because  the actors themselves (around 100,000 actors working in the US) make up the largest voting group in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which of course chooses the Oscar winners.

Other SAG award winners included Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, who won best actor in a TV drama, Homeland‘s Claire Danes for best actress, and Modern Family, which won best comedy cast ensemble award for a third consecutive year.
