Yep, you read that right – the 70-year-old actor who helped make the Star Wars franchise such a success in the first place will be returning as his character, Han Solo – after 30 years away from the job!

Ford starred in the original Star Wars trilogy between 1977 and 1983 alongside the likes of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

So, things seem to be shaping up nicely for the latest instalment, don’t they? What with J.J. Abrams lined up to direct, and Ford official coming back as Solo. What’s next? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Here’s what Latino-Review.com‘s El Mayimbe told FoxNewsLatino:

“He is officially coming back as Han Solo. His deal is done. It’s just formalities right now. They haven’t really announced it yet. That’s the big one right now.”

So, now all that’s left to do is start the story speculations. Harrison’s character previously ended up with Carrie’s alter ego in Return of the Jedi (1983), so what could possibly be happening next in the franchise? Where do you think Solo is now? The franchise was bought by Disney from creator George Lucas last year, and already it’s starting an avalanche of new activity and rumors, as well as being a great source of Twitter entertainment.

But at least the main stars are excited about the whole thing. According to the Daily Mail, a source close to the actor told Entertainment Weekly said: “Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it – all three of them [Mark, Harrison and Carrie] are.”

This is despite Harrison allegedly requesting that his character be killed-off in Return of the Jedi – a request which was denied due to the vast success of the Han Solo action figure kids (and adults) were enjoying at the time. Does anyone still have one of those??

Anyway, maybe we’ll see some new ones! We can look forward to Star Wars VII when it is expected to be released around abouts 2015.
