modern-family-emmysThe 67th Annual Prime Time Emmys are just two weeks away, and the competition is quite fierce. Handicapping the race can be a challenge. This year, some sportsbooks are weighing in on the Emmy Awards this year. Betting site TopBet is picking Veep for Outstanding Comedy Series while Mad Men seems to be trading places with Game of Thrones for Outstanding Drama Series.

Veep earning “favorite” status is a bit of surprise, considering that Modern Family has won Best Comedy for five straight years. But oddsmakers figure that voters are a bit tired of giving the top award to the ABC show, and they may be up for a change. Amazon’s Transparent also figures to be in the mix.

On the drama side, two-time defending champion Breaking Bad can no longer win, now that its series run is done. Mad Men did win in its first four years on the air, so after a strong final season, it’s not a surprise that they’re back in the mix. But Game of Thrones is arguably the buzzed about TV show today, and it might be able to overcome the Emmys’ traditional bias against fantasy shows.

If voters are still hung up on Breaking Bad though, then Better Call Saul could certainly find itself in the mix. And we know that House of Cards will be popular with voters.

So who will win the top awards at the Emmys this year? Next week, we’ll have a podcast to break down all of the awards. And the show will take place on Sunday, September 20.
