Box Office: ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Breaks Records
Not surprisingly, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast was a massive hit at the box office this weekend, raking in a whopping $170 million.
The $160 million Bill Condon production is the highest March opener of all time, besting the $166 million total posted by previous record holder Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice just under one year ago. Beauty and the Beast also took in about $180 million worldwide.
Last week’s champ Kong: Skull Island came in second with $28.9 million, while Logan took third place with $17.5 million.
Rounding out the top five were Jordan Peele’s horror-comedy hit Get Out, which bags $13.2 million, and the faith-based drama The Shack, which tallies $6.1 million at No. 5.
