While it’ll be a little sad to see Crown favorites Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby step aside for slightly older versions of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip and Princess Margaret, respectively, at least the new casting is shaping up.

First to be announced in the new Season 3 cast was Broadchurch star Olivia Colman as Elizabeth. Colman definitely has the right look and the chops (she’s really good in The Night Manager), so she’ll probably do a bang-up job. Then it was announced Helena Bonham Carter would play the older Princess Margaret, another stellar choice. You may recall Carter also portrayed Elizabeth II’s mother in The King’s Speech, so she knows a thing or two about playing royalty.

Now we have Tobias Menzies cast as Prince Phillip, and again, the resemblance is amazing. Menzies is one of those British character actors who always turns in great performances, but he particularly blew us away with his turn in Outlander. He plays the kind-hearted Frank Randall and his sadistic ancestor “Black Jack” Randall, and let’s just say, he got under the skin.

The popular Netflix series moves into the middle part of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, in the ’70s and ’80s. It’ll be interesting to see who they’ll cast as Princess Diana. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
