Great Scotty! McCreery Wins American Idol

In a season that saw arguably the most talented group in American Idol history, Scotty McCreery emerged victorious. The result was hardly a surprise as McCreery's boyish good looks and country charm won over the hearts of millions of teenage girls (i.e. voters). The 17-year old kid with a voice that sounded like a 40-year old never found himself in danger in any week, and his win was predicted by our very own Noah Duman. McCreery won despite the judges unanimously saying they felt Lauren Alaina beat him at the final. But the people spoke, and they spoke for Scotty. McCreery joins a list that includes illustrious singers like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, and disappointments like Taylor Hicks, Fantasia Barrino, and Kris Allen. Which one will Scotty be more like? Thank you to everyone who participated in our Fantasy American Idol game! It was truly a banner year for Picktainment.

American Idol: Haley’s Exit Sets Up Country Final

The jazz singer from Chicago was sent home from American Idol tonight as Haley Reinhart was eliminated. Consistently finishing in the bottom group in the show's early weeks, Haley rallied for a comeback that the show has rarely seen. After a stirring rendition of "Benny and Jets" during Motown Week, Haley began to win over fans across America and her growls even brought smiles to some faces. Ultimately though, Haley was unable to win enough votes to outlast the country kids Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. Scotty and Lauren now form the youngest final in American Idol history (at ages 17 and 16 respectively), and together they will bring country music to the forefront next week. Who will emerge victorious?

American Idol: Jacob Lusk is Silenced

Jacob Lusk was eliminated from American Idol tonight, landing the strong-voiced singer in fifth place. Despite having Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler repeatedly say it was an "honor" to be in Jacob's presence, the result was predicted by our own Noah Duman. Lusk struggled singing both voices in the Jordin Sparks-Chris Brown duet of "No Air", which led to a heated debate between him and Randy Jackson about what kind of singer he should be. Lusk wanted to be more mainstream, but Jackson felt he was more effective as a Luther Vandross-type. Jackson was probably right. Lusk redeemed himself somewhat with a stirring rendition of "Love Hurts", but on a night when all of the contestants had exceptionally strong performances, it was just too late in the game for there to be uncertainty on exactly the type of singer Lusk should be. Surprisingly, Lauren Alaina was in the bottom two, even though she has consistently improved each week and her rendition of a Carrie Underwood song was one of the best of the night. Who will go next?
