Interview: Filmmakers Want You to Save Yourselves!

by Kit Bowen 02 October, 2020

If you’re looking for some much-needed levity right now, Save Yourselves! is just the ticket.

The hilarious comedy centers on NYC couple Su (Sunita Mani) and Jack (John Reynolds), who decide to take a break from their iPhones, iPads, computers et. al. for a relaxing, self-explorative retreat in the woods.

Little do they know that while they are unplugged from the world, Earth is being attacked by aliens or “pouffes” – cute, cuddly and quite dangerous balls of fur. When Su and Jack finally get the hint something’s not quite right, they have to figure out a way to escape and survive in this brave new world.

Mani and Reynolds use their obvious expert improvisational skills to portray a modern couple dealing with their relationship – and the world ending -- but Save Yourselves is ultimately writer/directors Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson’s brainchild. They do a fantastic job giving us an indie relationship comedy wrapped up in a 1950s sci-fi package.

ScreenPicks spoke with Fischer and Wilson about their motivations in making this film, their brilliant cast and some challenges (Lyme disease?) they faced filming in the woods.
