The tense thriller The Secrets We Keep is set in post-WWII America, where we meet Maja (Noomi Rapace), a woman who escaped from Romania during the war and is rebuilding her life in the suburbs with her American husband, Lewis (Chris Messina) and their young son. Her life is suddenly turned upside down when she spots a man, Thomas (Joel Kinnaman), in her neighborhood and is convinced he was one of the German soldiers who committed heinous war crimes against her.
In an effort to either exact vengeance and/or find closure, Maja kidnaps Thomas and, with the reluctant assistance from Lewis, locks him in their home's basement. Thomas, who also has an American wife (Amy Seimetz) and two daughters, swears he is not the man Maja thinks he is, even provides proof, but she won't budge. Maja insists Thomas is this German soldier and tries to get to him to confess, as Lewis grapples with his wife's erratic behavior and possible delusions, stemming from her tragic past he never knew about.
ScreenPicks' Kit Bowen spoke with stars Rapace, Kinnaman, Messina and Seimetz about making this drama and how they approached their roles and perspectives. Plus, everyone agreed Rapace was the driving force in getting The Secrets We Keep made!
